Kathleen Agnes ‘Kick’ Kennedy

Joy She Gave, Joy She Has Found

February 20, 1920 - May 13, 1948

The life of the Kennedy sister who tried to find her own path in life was filled with unthinkable tragedy. Just five months after fun-loving and charming Kick married the love of her life, aristocrat William Cavendish, he died on the battlefields of World War II (9 September 1944). The tragedy happened just a month after Kick’s oldest brother Joe Kennedy Jr died when his plane exploded during a top secret bombing mission in Europe. In 1948 the young widow found new love with Earl Peter FitzWilliam. Yet tragedy would strike again: on May 13, 1948 the couple died in a terrible plane crash in France. Joe Kennedy Sr was the only member of the Kennedy family to attend the funeral of his daughter. Kathleen was just 28 years old.

I’m feeling so unworthy of it all living as I have in reasonable safety and comfort during these years….. I have a permanent lump in my throat and long for you to be here as it is an experience which few can have and which I would love to share with you.

Kick Kennedy in HBO pilot ‘The Newsroom’

Robert F. Kennedy’s granddaughter has nabbed her first big acting break: Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy has scored a role in Aaron ‘The West Wing’ Sorkin’s HBO pilot. The Newsroom, a show about cable news, also stars such boldface names as Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer, Olivia Munn, and Dev Patel. Of course, Hollywood is nothing new for the Kennedy clan: Kathleen’s great-grandfather, Joseph P. Kennedy, formed one of the Big Five studios.

Kick make’s her big move

Aaron Sorkin (‘The West Wing’) has created a big break in the acting world for a member of the U.S. Kennedy political dynasty. Insiders say Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy, 23, daughter of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has just been cast in Sorkin’s HBO pilot ‘More As This Story Develops.’

The new project will reportedly co-star Olivia Munn, Emily Mortimer, Jeff Daniels, and Dev Patel (‘Slumdog Millionaire), and will take place in the world of cable news, according to the New York Post.

Kennedy, who inherited her nickname “Kick” from her adventurous great-aunt Kathleen, is a Standford graduate and recent Strasberg Institute acting student. The Sorkin series will mark her TV acting debut.

Her dad, environmental activist RFK Jr., has been romantically linked to ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ star Cheryl Hines, an industry veteran who has allegedly played a hand in introducing the show biz newbie to Hollywood producers and casting execs.

As the Post points out, young Kick Kennedy’s legacy isn’t just in D.C.: Her great-grandfather and legendary family patriarch, Joseph P. Kennedy, co-founded a powerful studio in 1929 during Hollywood’s “golden age.” RKO Pictures employed the likes of Cary Grant, Fred Astaire and Katharine Hepburn.

RFK’s first great-grandchild born

Last Monday a son was born to Maeve Townsend and David McKean. His name is Gideon Joseph Kennedy McKean and he’s a healthy boy of seven pounds, 12 ounces and 21 inches. Gideon is the first grandchild of former Maryland Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (59) and her husband David (62) and the first great-grandchild of Ethel Kennedy (83) and the late senator Robert F. Kennedy. Gideon is also the first of the fifth generation of Kennedys.

Maeve Townsend is a senior advisor for global affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services and David is the legal director for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. The proud parents took their firstborn’s name from the Supreme Court’s Gideon V. Wainwright ruling ordering states to pay for public defenders.
“We hope he will be inspired to follow his family’s long tradition,” McKean said in a statement, “of being outraged against injustice.”
